A Progressive defeats President Clinton for the Democratic nomination. Donald Trump wins in the Republican party yet again.

Clinton's first term doesn't go well. Trump starts a third party, taking half of the Republican base with him. 2020 is an insane three-way race between Clinton, Cruz, and Trump.

Alex Jones could become the Republican nominee.

Unrealistic? That's what we thought of Trump once! Win or lose, the Republicans will move even further to the right in the next four years.

Thom Hartmann, new AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, Michael McGinn, or Suzanne Bonamici wins over ten states against Clinton in the primary(New England minus CT; The Dakotas, Kansas, and Nebraska; Washington and Oregon).

A Paul/Condoleeza Rice ticket is the compromise between Former Governor Mike Pence, Senator Rand Paul, and Senator Barbara Comstock, the last of whom was elected in 2017, after Paul clinched the nomination May 3.

An independent ticket of John Monds/Rocky de la Fuente is nominated by the Reform Party, Justice Party, and Libertarian Party. This polls about 15%.

Kanye West wins the Democratic nomination without any challenge
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wins the Republican nomination
Hugh Mungus and Ken Bone decide to create their own political party
The ghosts of both George Wallace and Curtis LeMay run for the American Independent Party

Although impossible, I dare someone to create a more crazy election
(to be fair, I'd omit both of the ghosts, although it definitely helps with the craziness of the election)

Well the states to watch this year are Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. In 2020 we could see a year in which a birth certificate and a criminal background check is required to vote. Oh and voting locations have been moved to local police stations.

I will now accept my accolades:

2020: Clinton vs. Jones

Four years after liberal Republican Donald Trump loses to Clinton, the Republican Party faces a heated primary, in which true conservative Alex Jones defeats establishment RINO Louie Gohmert for the nomination.

President Hillary Clinton / Vice-President Julian Castro 68.2% 531
Radio Host Alex Jones / Former State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle 29.8% 7

When I saw the 2020 forum posted, I immediately shouted NO, startling the passing students in the hallway (luckily it was in between periods). That said, I cannot fathom how it could be crazier, but I never thought there would be a GOP candidate that I could hate with every fiber of my being. I suppose if the alt-right continues it ascendance in the Republican Party we could see something even crazier in 2020, but I sure do hope we go back to "business as usual" and have a normal, sane campaign.

GOP surges in House and Senate in 2018.  House Republicans impeach Clinton after the 2020 DNC, Senate removes her from office in October, leaving an impeached and removed ex-President as the Democratic nominee.

What will they impeach her for?  Doesn't matter.  They'll make something up.

Another wacko nut job rises up from the base and wins the GOP primary...

...and then polls consistently show that candidate ahead of Clinton in the general.

Are Republicans really going to take us to the brink of madness and destruction every four years?  Can you guys please stop?  Thanks.  -Ron

The last post in 2016 was when many people were certain that the Clinton would win, but as crazy as Trump's victory seemed at the time, things could get even crazier.
If the Democrats can't find a strong candidate (and I don't know who that would be), they could be in trouble. A second term for Trump would be just as crazy if not crazier than his first. It is still a real possibility. It is possible that the Dems will need to win the firewall states (2016 states, PA, WI, &MI)
and that if the they don't win them all Trump will probably win. This could happen if the Democrats can't find someone good.

Trump loses to Kasich in the Republican primaries after the economy suffers, then runs an independent campaign (yellow).

Bernie (green) bolts the party after Democrats nominate Kamala Harris.

In the contingent election, a handful of Republicans select Harris over Trump, giving her the presidency. Pence becomes vice president.

The simplest idea is to simply have third parties actually win states. Bonus for multiple third parties

Here's a possible map with a centrist democrat winning a landslide while a far left candidate wins several states and a McMullin like candidate also wins states and the Libertarians also winning states:

Centre-left Democrat: 379 (39%)
Donald Trump: 127 (31%)
Libertarian candidate: 15 (14%)
McMullin-like candidate: 10 (7%)
Far left candidate: 7 (9%)

Then again such an sceario has essencially a 0% chance of happening, and even a single third party winning a state is extremely unlikely, that's just the craziest idea I could come up with while extrapolating from 2016

I'm pretty sure that it will be crazier no matter what.

A challenge by Kasich would automatically give Dems the Oval Office. I would love it, should he run, giving Booker, Ohio.

The clown car primary that's sure to ensue on the Democratic side already makes 2020 pretty close to 2016. Add in a credible challenge to President Trump and a few bad campaign choices (think Secretary Clinton not going to the Midwest much at all) and gaffes and pretty easily you've got something more entertaining than '16.
