My green shirt that says "GERMAN" on it to piss off one of my friends in Chicago that we'll be partying with.

Is that the politically-correct version of wearing a swastika armband?

Green.  While I'm a Protestant and thus should technically wear orange, I dislike the whiff of anti-Catholicism it gives.  My ancestry is about half Irish (though I couldn't tell you whether any of them were Catholic or Protestant), so I feel that wearing orange to the exclusion of green is too divisive.  Maybe when I'm working I'll compromise and wear a green shirt with an orange tie, or vice versa.

While we're on the subject, allow me to mention that I see fewer people around me wearing green on St. Patrick's Day.  When I was in elementary school, all of my classmates did it (whether they were Irish ancestry or not), but some time around the second half of middle school I saw fewer and fewer of them doing it.  I kept doing it and still do every year, even if it's only at home.

I don't color code my dress for events like St. Patrick's Day, but if I was in elected politics, I would probably just wear a green bowtie or tie for the day because that is custom.

As an Irish Catholic, I wouldn't dare wear orange. Green it was.

I wore green earrings, but that was about it (also completely unintentional).

Before I went out for errands yesterday, my wife pointed out that it was good that I was wearing green.  I exclaimed an appropriate swear of exasperation, and left.  Thought about changing my shirt, but then that would be admitting that the Irish had won, and I'll never admit that.

(really though, I like the Irish.  Any nation that embraces all it's accurate stereotypes, negative or positive, is a good group.  The Irish know what they are and they don't give a sh**t.)
