Yes. Ignoring the question over abolishing it, its a very irresponsible and pointless holiday that encourages people to be obnoxious, drink to irresponsible levels and encourages DUIs and disorderly conduct. I'm at a show now and not drinking in protest

Ugh. I f[inks]ing hate it.

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and  my head
Hang out with the living dead
Snort white sh**t up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need

I've got the straight edge

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating 'ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch

I've got the straight edge

No state officially recognizes it as a holiday, to my knowledge.

And it's not a holiday about drinking. It's supposed to be about the person, and a day of going to Church.

Later, it became associated with the Irish.

And people used to stereotype the Irish as being subhumans, "Europe's blacks" as some old racists called them, and talked about how they always drink and would doom society.

Later a bunch of people who weren't Irish decided to drink "because it's Saint Patrick's Day" as a way to make fun of the Irish and feed the stereotype, like making it the "Day of Fools," which the actual Irish objected to.

Decades later, with it becoming "cool," people of Irish descent who were ignorant of all this decided to embrace it.

It's not a stupid holiday, tho the way it is commonly celebrated certainly is stupid.

The Feast of St. Patrick? No, its not a stupid holiday.

The drinking/pinching holiday celebrated by the pagans? Perhaps, but loosen up a bit and have some fun in your life.

C’mon, every little persecuted minority in american society deserves a special holiday, even if it has nothing to with their ancestery(their religion too, which was ruthlessly persecuted.)Nothing amounts more to american society than African-Americans celebrating kwanza or creoles in lousisiana who speak French, maybe they deserve there own holiday since they don’t speak English nor Spanish.

Yes and no.  It's stupid in the sense that it reinforces negative stereotypes of the Irish, involves heavy drinking (of green beer nonetheless), includes tons of plastic paddies who think that wearing green and eating corned beef and cabbage makes them Irish (corned beef is actually Jewish), and isn't of much other significance unless you're Irish, Irish descent, and/or Catholic.  (Being about half Irish extraction myself, I can't tell you how many times I've cringed at cartoons depicting rowdy leprechauns with red hair, freckles, and thick Irish accents hoarding pots of gold and drinking heavily.  And pirates, don't forget pirates.)  I also get tired of people confusing Irish people with Scots.

It's not stupid in the sense that it is a way to celebrate Irish and Irish-American culture, as well as the life of St. Patrick, a great Christian man who dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel.

Weird, given you're certainly an obnoxious type.
