Thoughts on which way Seminole goes in a tight-locked Scott v. Nelson dead heat?

Duval is all a turnout game. If Gillum and Nelson are tied with their opponents or narrowly winning it, it means black voters are showing up at Obama levels.

I think Nelson and Gillum win Monroe. Dems had higher turnout in the primary despite lower registration. Not sure on Pinellas or Seminole, but I think whoever wins statewide wins those.

Can't speak for Seminole but Gillum will increase turnout in south St. Pete / Pinellas which is predominantly African American. Pinellas is a slightly lean left county despite Trump winning it by 6 thousand votes so I think he wins it but his margin will be key. As for the Senate race, Scott lost Pinellas County in both 2014 and 2010 (granted Crist is from Pinellas so 2010 might be an outlier, but still). Scott lost it by 17k voters in 2010 and 39k votes in 2014. Gillum needs a margin somewhere between that.

The red tide dealio is really a failure of Republican policy and not exactly just Scott, if you ask me. They are constantly cutting taxes and spending on all sorts of programs they shouldn't be, such as infrastructure, environment, and education. What did they expect? When you always give businesses priority over everything else, eventually they are going to screw over the environment (and everyone else). It's in their nature. They want profits, and they don't care about anything else. It's the government's job to keep corporations and other polluters in line, because otherwise these greedy businesses will pollute the crap out of the environment or take huge risks with big potential problems for local residents.

It's just tiring and annoying that time after time, they never admit they were wrong, and that maybe they need to invest more in preventing industrial pollution. They never let anything get in the way of their obsession with deregulation and tax cuts. Instead, they just ignore it and act like there is nothing they could have done to stop it. It's ridiculous.

the simple answer is that Nelson is not the incumbent in any conventional sense. Scott has the name recognition advantage, existing infrastructure, and experience running statewide that we traditionally attribute to incumbents. Not sure what sort of statewide network Nelson has, but he's definitely less well-known than Scott and shouldn't be treated as "the incumbent" here.

Nelson has been in the Senate 18 years, but he's not as well known as Scott?

To be fair, if the incumbency advantage can be a thing for lesser-known House Reps and even state lawmakers, I think Nelson would benefit somewhat as well. I know part of the so-called incumbency advantage is in part better campaigning skills and fundraising that comes with numerous election cycles, but Nelson has some of that that should offset whatever advantages Scott has.

That's a pretty good ad. (reminds of his Space connections, shows him as wanting to work together, and also show him as energetic/in good shape... since a few tried to make an issue of his age). Good Overall ad... Especially if accompanied with a few others that highlights a few specific issues- esp ones that Scott may be vulnerable on.

That a pretty good ad.  He needs a follow up that highlights a few specific issues- esp ones that Scott may be vulnerable on.

Nah, ads like this one are far more effective than ads talking about "specific issues".

Here are Nelson's other two astronaut ads:

Nothing would make me happier than Nelson's first name being Harry instead of Bill. If Nelson changes his name to Harry he may have a better chance at motivating young voters against Voldemort.

Just saw the astronaut ad on TV. Also saw a Rick Scott ad with him in front of a white board, it was kind of creepy.

Bill Nelson's recent attack ad against Rick Scott on education are rated « Pants of Fire ». He claimed that under Scott's governorship, Florida was #40 on the 50 states in terms of education, which is completely false. Florida is ranked 7th on 50 in the nation in terms of education, which is far from 40. Florida passed from #35 in education in 2011 to #7 in 2018. So Florida education prospered under Rick Scott.

To me- I think the "Stars" (video below)  is the best of the 3 Astronaut ads.

What do you think accounts for Nelson's recent uptick in the polls (according to Real Clear Politics Polls began around the 9/20)?
