What if Delaware had never existed and had been part of Maryland instead?
Would Joe Biden still have been a senator?
If so, would Obama still have chosen him as his running?
If not, whom instead?

Delaware was originally part of Pennsylvania. It has never been part of Maryland.

Really? Didn't know that. But before the USA were founded, it had been a sovereign state, right?

They were considered part of Pennsylvania Colony prior to 1776, and were referred to as the Three Lower Counties of Pennsylvania or the Three Lower Counties on the Delaware. They were on a separate feed , however, and beginning in 1701, they were allowed a separate legislative assembly while still sharing a royal governor with Pennsylvania proper.

But it made sense to cut Delaware off from Pennsylvania. The same applied to Maine and Massachusetts.
