Robert Byrd wins the Democratic nomination and picks Ann Richards as his running mate, while Dan Quayle wins the GOP nomination easily after Bush declines to run for a second term. Quayle picks John Sununu as his running mate. meanwhile, Independent Ross Perot still runs, doesn't drop out half way through, and picks consumer safety advocate Ralph Nader as his running mate. who wins and what does the map look like? the economy is the same as OTL '92.

Richards wouldn't win Texas for Byrd? Sununu wouldn't win New Hampshire for Quayle? Perot wouldn't do better or worse considering he doesn't drop out and picks Nader as his running mate?

I would vote Quayle, even though I think he is a fool.  Better than Grand Wizard or whatever Byrd.  He was still uttering racial slurs into the 2000's which show he hadn't really changed.

Byrd actually loses the African American vote to Quayle/Perot...leading to a Republican blowout.

Quayle wins with at least 435 EV

Perot maybe picks up Montana and Alaska, but it's unlikely.

There have been elections in the Deep South where former* segregationist Democrats have still easily won the black vote against inoffensive GOP candidates, so I doubt Quayle does substantially better with black voters than Bush did IOTL.
