Well, de Leon made it to the run-off, barely. I predict he won't crack 35%. Probably 70-30% in the end.

What's the appeal of voting for Dianne Feinstein?
Because most California democrats don't know better and would vote for a massive DINO over an "unknown" progressive candidate.

I pay little attention to the "DINO/is someone left enough?" conversations but I just don't see the appeal of voting for her, especially when comparing how she represents California (in every way) compared to Kamala Harris. I don't think she represents contemporary California in any way. I've seen several people on here with California avatars saying things like, "I wish she'd retired this year, but I'm voting for her." Why? Just because she's held the job forever doesn't mean anything (Barbara Boxer, Kamala's predecessor, was voted in the same year). Kevin de Leon is an accomplished man of Latino and Asian ancestry and I feel he'd be better at representing the needs contemporary California better. I know it's the year if the woman, but come on.

Feinstein is very far-left and one of the more progressive senate democrats. Can't imagine why you think she's a moderate "DINO."

It just exhausts me that younger office-holders (especially those of color) have such difficulty moving up in my party, even when they may be a better choice. Republicans seem to be better at moving younger people up the ranks (maybe because they have less of a problem with challenging one another) and that should give Democrats pause about the future. We're still dominated by old white folks in the Democratic party despite that not being what most of our base is and even though those old white folks maybe aren't the best choices for us anymore. It's really frustrating sometimes.

GOP has hard time governing because of the turnover and lack of experienced politicians running committees and the like. experience/age are positives as well

No. According to the all-important Trump Score, Feinstein votes with Trump 26% of the time. 26 of the 49 Senate Democrats vote with Trump less often than Feinstein does. This places Feinstein squarely in the middle of the caucus, not on the far-left where Sanders and Warren lurk.

She's the only Senate Democrat left who voted for the Bush tax cuts. Even Nelson and Carper voted against them. My guess is that this Trump Score is rather lacking in data points.

If Feinstein is "far left" I'd love to know what you think people like Jayapal or Merkley are...

Heck even Sherrod Brown is more left wing than Feinstein.

She wants a blanket gun ban and wants all civilian-owned guns confiscated; I call that pretty far-left. It's really sad that anyone in the modern Democratic Party who isn't a self-professed Marxist is considered a "centrist" or "DINO." This party has really become unhinged since 2016.
I'm afraid that the damage Bernie Sanders inflicted by normalizing Marxism and bringing it into the mainstream is irreversible.

If Bernie Sanders is a marxist, every other developed country in the world is also marxist.

Hint: You can disagree with Bernie Sanders without using hyperbole.

Yes, just like how Doug Jones is far left because of his civil rights record as a prosecuter. Or how pretty much every Democrat from the rust belt is far left because they are pro union. Or how Murphy and Blumenthal are far left because they are also anti gun.

Dianne Feinstein is among the most useless Democrats in the Senate, once the lean of her state is factored in.

Are you really going to rank her based on this one issue?

Actual lefties and far lefties would take umbrage with this kind of ranking of her. She caught a lot of flack post-2016 for not embracing single payer, for instance. It's never good to go by just one or two issues, but if you were going to do that, their position on single payer is a good place to start.

kevin made an amazing speech got to shake his hand and got a campaign sign I also met his whip at the CA Dem convention he told me about how amazing it was to almost get the CA dem party's endorsement and how much work they put into it was really interesting.
De Leon is in the runoff, but he did very poorly in Imperial County. All Imperial County precincts in. His weak performance in Imperial foreshadows an easy win for Feinstein.

Thats true but if he can't win he'll move feinstein to the left and he definitely has a future in ca politics based off the speech he gave

If a Kennedy couldn't do it, why De Leon?

If Harvey Milk...arguably one of the most talented and charismatic San Franciscans in the 70's couldn't, why De Leon?

Don't be so condescending both of you she's already moved to the left on pot and the death penalty
http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article212310234.html

It is very brave of her to adopt a less authoritarian position on marijuana after the complete legalization passed by 57% of the voters took effect.

Wrong on both counts, friend.  Try again.

Or, try reading up on something before talking about something you know nothing about.  I'm sure they have books in Alabama at your "Marxist" public libraries.
