I just discovered that Ohio's next governor had a guest role in Mariah Carey's music video of Touch My Body. I knew that I had seen that Hackfresse before.
I didn't know that he had already been famous back then.

While we're at it, I have wanted to ask a native English speaker about the lyrics of When I Grow Up for ten years. What do the Pussycat Dolls really sing in the chorus? "When I grow up I wanna see the world, drive nice cars, I wanna have ..." Tongue

Oh wow. You make me feel old. Which probably was the entire purpose of this thread. Most of them are FF songs, especially those by Britney, Christina, Miley and the RnB/hiphop stuff. A few of them are very American, so I don't know these.

Wow, I started going down the list and clicking but then I realized I would have to click on every single song!  This was the best era of music, or maybe that's just nostalgia talking.  Sad.

Metro Station Shake it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wjFahULCK8

Sean Kingston Fire Burning - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rvrRx-3eUE

Kanye West Stronger - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsO6ZnUZI0g

This is such a depressing thread knowing that 2008 was 10 years ago. Sean Kingston was pumping out hit after hit in 2008, then he just vanished. I heard he got into a boating accident.

Ah Paper Planes by MIA reminds me of my GCSE Drama days. We had a module where we had to go into old folks homes and do some kind of show that I remember involved some sort of chorographed routine to Paper Planes. I think the play was about WW2 or something so I'm not sure whether the song made sense in context, but still.

Interesting. A certain trend is becoming apparent after 23 votes.
I knew that we have many Katy Parry and Lady Gaga disciples on this site, but I didn't know that there are so many Coldplay fans. Tongue

For those who are interested in both American politics and British music, MAD TV made a parody of Viva La Vida. 😁

I was about to add it to the list, but I looked it up and the single came out in 2009.

A song that I really forgot is Untouched by The Veronicas.  Undecided
The string ensemble at the beginning is epic and still gives me goosebumps.

Other possibilities for 2008 songs that I totally thought would've made the list:

MGMT - Kids

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal

Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma

Not that those are necessarily my favorites from that year, but, well, I guess we can tell that my finger isn't always exactly on the pulse of popularity Tongue

No. I was actually considering to add that song to the list, but declined it after I'd found out that it was released in March 2009. Thus, you'll have to wait one more year. Smiley
(But you're right, it is really one great composition.)
