FMJ is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Ermey played his role of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman so perfectly that his character became the epitome of a drill sergeant. Well, in fact, he was one iRL, too, but not every drill instructor could have played that role as accurately as him. 😢

His voice is what I hear when I think of "Drill Sergeant." Not many actors can say that.

His willingness to take literally every role (he was in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy ffs) make him a huge FF in my book, regardless of our political differences.

I used to watch Mail Call on the History Channel, back when that meant something.

Disagree with some of his politics, but he seemed like a really nice and genuinely likable guy. RIP

Kubrick allowed him to improvise his lines, something he did very, very rarely. Now, that's something.

I remember him from Toy Story and Mail Call.  He didn't play the drill instructor in this commercial, but he should have (I love the line "How dare you disrespect me, your country, and your mama!")  In pace requiescat.

I used to watch Mail Call on the History Channel, back when that meant something.
I remember that show too, though I didn't watch it much.  But you're right about the History Channel--it's basically nothing but Pawn Stars now.
