Obviously he would've still lost, but by how much and what would the map be?

BRTD again displays his bizarre infatuation with early 20th century anti-Catholic bigotry.

I actually don't believe he'd have won any additional states (maybe Texas), since Southerners would still be mistrustful of a former Catholic. He'd have lost Massachusetts and Rhode Island, turning it into a true landslide.
It was already a true landslide, by any reasonable definition.

Smith's Catholicism was a major issue, and if he had converted, he would have lost Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  And his vote totals where the Catholic population was high (Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey) would have dropped off.

In the South, he would probably picked up Texas (running closer in Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, and North Carolina).

Hoover would win big in any instance.  The Republicans were the dominant party then, and the economy looked (superficially) to be in excellent shape.

Liberal Catholic vs. conservative Protestant ... what on Earth would 1920s BRTD ever do?

If that had happened, Al Smith would have carried the South, each and every state, but he would have done worse in areas of the Northeast where his candidate did make inroads.
