I figure there would have to be some craft beer fans on these boards.

Drop a post here re: what you have tried lately and give a little review about what it tasted like and how you liked it.

Personally, I am currently drinking the Red Eye IPA from Two Brothers Brewing in Warrenville, IL. It is an IPA that is brewed with coffee. This caused me great concern at first, but I figured I had to give it a try. It is actually quite good - the coffee is very subdued, which is the main factor that could turn it into a very bad beer. Overall, I am a fan, though I probably won't pick it up again.

^ I'm surprised the coffee works with what the IPA is all about: the hops. Sure enough on the Red Eye label it says "At Two Brothers we love hops...." This may explain why I have never been the biggest fan of Two Brothers beer; I am not a fan of excessive use of hops in craft beer. But given how local it is, and how much I LOVE hanging out at the Two Brothers coffee house, I will probably give it a try.

Probably due to the Bohemian in me, I have recently enjoyed Baderbräu as a Chicago-made pilsner. It probably is overpriced, but I think its a good beer to throw into a build-your-own 6 pack.

Two Brothers is great! Have either of you been out to their tap room in Warrenville? They've got some beers that're exclusive to the taproom and they're quite good.

As for me, I'm currently sitting in Miscatonic Brewing in Darien, IL drinking an IPA brewed with grapefruit. It's a NE-style IPA; very fruit-forward and not overly hoppy.

I've been to The Craftsman and the Round House of theirs, but considering how good those are I'd definitely hit up the Tap House.

Love the sound of that Miscatonic. I'll hit that up too.

It's called Chapter 8. Miscatonic has some really good experimental stuff and I'd highly recommend checking out their taproom if you're ever able to get out to Darien.

I conceptually like the tap room, but I went to K-12 right next to Warrenville so it's weird going there around the holidays and seeing people I haven't talked to since high school.

There is a local brewery in Kalona, IA (a small town outside of Iowa City) that has a VERY good golden ale.

I really like Domain DuPage from Two Brothers.  I've been meaning to get out to their location but it's out of the way.

Rolling Rock has lowered the price back to something reasonable so I'm off Bud Ice.

If you've never been to Revolution, go. They've got great beers and it's in the way.

Revolution Brewing? Are they the guys with Debs on their beer? I like the aesthetic, but I’ve always been uneasy with the idea of funding them.

That's the one. Lots of their art is socialist themed. While not all wear it on their sleeve like Revolution, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a microbrewery that isn't owned and operated by lefties. Especially, obviously, in Chicago.

Uh, I’d disagree.  They’re small business owners, too.  I’d say it’d depend entirely on location.

The Revolution Brewery gives free tours AND you get a beer on the tour.  I'm not a big fan of the beers, but its worth it to try once.

Perhaps there would be some particular stances related to their business where they may deviate in self-interest, but in general I think there is most frequently a bohemian vibe to most microbrewers that suggests solid left wing tendencies. They may also be averse to certain barriers of entry that are perpetuated by the larger macrobrewers' influence, and of course the GOP is most frequently aligned with those groups (Bud, Miller, etc).

I've been to both tap houses. Revolution is conveniently on the way from Wrigley Field to the Blue Line. Two Brothers tap house is about as obscure as a location can be, but the place is never empty and I live just a few minutes away. If you are in the western 'burbs, I'd suggest trying Penrose in Geneva; the beer is excellent, and if you can find a day when the Gnarly Knots food truck is there, it's even better.

Penrose is great, they came and did a presentation in one of my mechanical engineering classes at Illinois. I really like what the company offers.

I've been to most of the taphouses in the western suburbs and Penrose has the best beer of the bunch. Imperial oak in Willow Springs is a close second.
