Right now, I saw that George W. Bush's popularity has drastically emerged since 2009, climbing from 33 % to 60 % who now have a favorable opinion of him, passing the mid 50s during the 2016 election.

Due to his dislike of Donald Trump due to his bigotry rhetoric and to their differences when it comes to foreign policy, Bush skipped the convention that nominated Trump. Had the GOP nominated a more convenient candidate like Rubio, Kasich or his brother Jeb, I guess Bush would surely have attended the 2016 RNC. But with his popularity rising, would he have spoken at the Convention?

MY inclination is possibly. Like I think he might have avoided his brother's convention to avoid the whole third Bush President thing, being kicked up.

He probably would have delivered the keynote address at Jeb's convention.

He would have attended for anyone else (except maybe Perry...they don't get along at all), but he probably wouldn't have spoken.

I don't know if he'd have delivered the Keynote Speech, but he'd have had a major speaking slot.

Bush 43's stock would have been at its highest point in years around the time of the 2016 RNC, due to ISIS activity at the time.

Related question: Who will speak at more RNCs in the future?  George W. Bush or Donald Trump?  (Or will it be a tie?)

I definitely don’t see that happening.

Only if Jeb got nominated. Jeb aside, the GOP has largely pretended that GWB didn't exist since he left office.

That's not as easy as it seems to be.

If Trump retains a core of supporters who are loyal to him, as did Barry Goldwater, he'll get return gigs, unless he goes out like Nixon.

Yes, he would. I can't imagine him having any less of a role than a speech in a favorable timeslot. He is a popular former Republican president now.

I don't think it's easy at all.  It could go either way,.

If he didn't even attend the 2012 convention, I doubt, unless Jeb! somehow emerged as the nominee, that he'd attend or speak at the 2016 convention even if someone else got the nomination. Now, if Trump gets Cartered/Hoovered in 2020 or goes the way of Nixon, then maybe Dubya will be vindicated enough to speak in 2024 or 2028.

Only if it was JEB! The fact that many Republicans hate him now should be a testament to how the RNC was smart to avoid George W. Bush having anything to do them.

EDIT: I was inspired by other posts to make my post more high energy, that is to say the obligatory "!" has been added to my post.

Neither will ever speak at an RNC as long as they live. The GOP is smart to pretend that Dubya was never president, keep him at arms length, and never, ever bring him out to campaign. I expect Trump to get the same treatment after he's removed from office or loses in 2020.

I don't think there would've been any reason to broadcast a president who left office with a 25% approval rating. Why rehash bad memories at an event that is supposed to galvanize constituents?

Jimmy Carter has spoken at every DNC since he left office.

Yeah, but Perry completely ruined that relationship during his 2012 Presidential Election.

I don't think so. GWB's approvals have gone up largely because he has stayed out of the limelight and because he now looks perfect when compared to Trump. I doubt his numbers rise as high if we have a different nominee, and him going up on the stage will remind everyone of his administrations mistakes.
