greetings fellow users, i'm new in this group, I like to contribute to this page a lot, but first i want some answers: does anybody knows the counties that first voted for Bill Clinton in his presidential bid of 1992 and then swung to vote for his rival Bob Dole in 1996? I will appreciate the answers, and as i say before i will contribute to this page

Franklin County, GA (2010 pop. 22,084) in the NE part of the state. I'm sure there are others. Can anyone else help? I'm sure there are several in CO, GA, and MT-- the three states that voted for Clinton in '92 and Dole in '96-- and perhaps in other states as well.

I know I made a thread listing them a while back but I can't find it. How annoying.

In WA there was Okanogan County, largely due to Perot.

In Idaho there was Benewah, Bonner, Clearwater, and Lewis. Benewah and Bonner were mostly the Perot factor. Clearwater and Lewis counties, however, had been a stronghold for the International Woodworkers of America and for decades were some of the most Democratic counties in Idaho (LBJ got 76% in both of them back in 1964) and among only five Dukakis won in 1988. But the 90s "spotted owl" controversy combined with union-busting send them firmly into GOP territory. In 2000, George W. Bush hit 76% in Lewis and 74% in Clearwater, which at the time was the best a Republican presidential candidate had done in those counties since statehood.

There was a dramatic increase in polarization thanks to the 1994 midterms.

Actually, that one is a completely mutilated pack of errors on wikipedia.

It actually voted starting from 2016 going backwards to 1960:

Thank you.

San Luis Obispo, CA appears (from Wikipedia once again!) to be a Clinton '92 - Dole '96 county.

Riverside County, CA is another Clinton/Dole county. Neighboring San Bernardino County ended up Clinton/Clinton, although close margins overall

Riverside and San Bernardino Counties have had little variation in their voting patterns over the past three election cycles (2008, 2012, 2016). Both counties have consistently voted Democratic by narrow margins across those three elections, after George W. Bush, the last Republican to carry them, had won them by double digits in 2004. Riverside County, in particular, gave plurality wins to Obama in 2012 and Clinton in 2016. By contrast, Orange, San Diego, and Imperial Counties have experienced a more substantive shift in that time period. Orange went from voting for Bush by 21% in 2004 to going for Clinton by 8% 12 years later; San Diego went from a 6% Bush win to a 20% Clinton win in that same time period; and Imperial has gone from giving John Kerry "only" 52% to giving Clinton 68%. Moreover, Bush got 35% in Los Angeles County; Trump just 22%. The shift of Southern California is what has really consolidated the state's status as Safe Democratic.
