Riverside County, CA is another Clinton/Dole county. Neighboring San Bernardino County ended up Clinton/Clinton, although close margins overall
Riverside and San Bernardino Counties have had little variation in their voting patterns over the past three election cycles (2008, 2012, 2016). Both counties have consistently voted Democratic by narrow margins across those three elections, after George W. Bush, the last Republican to carry them, had won them by double digits in 2004. Riverside County, in particular, gave plurality wins to Obama in 2012 and Clinton in 2016. By contrast, Orange, San Diego, and Imperial Counties have experienced a more substantive shift in that time period. Orange went from voting for Bush by 21% in 2004 to going for Clinton by 8% 12 years later; San Diego went from a 6% Bush win to a 20% Clinton win in that same time period; and Imperial has gone from giving John Kerry "only" 52% to giving Clinton 68%. Moreover, Bush got 35% in Los Angeles County; Trump just 22%. The shift of Southern California is what has really consolidated the state's status as Safe Democratic.
