Basically Likely D if Hood runs, especially given the enthusiasm gap.
Amazing to think that in January of 2019, Alabama will have a Democratic Senator, Mississippi will have a Democratic Governor, and Vermont and Massachusetts will both have Republican Governors.

So, I haven't followed anything about this race at all, and now I'm super curious as to why it is competitive at all.

Still tossup. Hood is no silver bullet for Democrats in Mississippi...he'd probably need a nasty GOP primary/runoff to feel good about winning (maybe McDaniel runs after losing the Senate Special Election).

This doesn't seem too surprising tbh. PNM is right in regards to Hood's popularity and disapproval of the GOP. It'll probably just end up being something like in Kentucky where the race was expected to be a close win for the party in power but the out-of-power party sweeps it up instead (though it seems that the polls might just have Hood ahead anyway). Besides, this being an off-year election should make it resemble more special-election-type turnout in which there will be a larger percentage of out-of-power party voters voting than in a presidential or midterm year.

Probably unique to Jim Hood’s personal popularity more than anything else. Though I’m sure Trump and one-party rule in DC and Jackson aren’t doing Reeves any favors.

This. Even in 2015, Hood won the AG race by double digits while Bryant absolutely crushed a nobody truck driver (no disrespect to him). Hood also has a 39-11 favorability rating as well.

It's actually funny to think that within the next 2 years, this much of the Old Confederacy could have at least 1 of its 3 top-ticket officials (Governor & Senators) elected as Democrats:

Do the Dems have a decent candidate to fill the AG and LG slots? With Hood and potentially Pressley as SoS on the ballot, it could be a banner year for Mississippi Dems.

LOL TEXAS

Dems aren't winning Texas this year, sorry.  Maybe with Henry Cuellar, they could have.

Keep in mind that MS has a law that uses the State House districts as an electoral college to decide statewide elections if no candidate gets to 50%.  That's a serious handicap for Hood.  Of course, it could also lead to the law getting struck down in court if it throws an election against the statewide PV winner.  It blatantly disadvantages whomever is winning the black vote and thus the VRA districts in the State House and it does appear that it was explicitly passed for discriminatory reasons back in the 1890's.

You could put Arkansas in red if Mike Beebe could run again.
