Janus v. AFSCME is out. 5-4 and the unions lose, as predicted. Alito wrote the majority, Kagan and Sotomayor wrote dissents.

A summary per SCOTUSBlog:

According to Kagan's dissent, Janus "will have large-scale consequences. Public employee unions will lose a secure source of financial support. State and local governments that thought fair-share provisions furthered their interests will need to find new ways of managing their workforces."

Beautiful!!!!

A beautiful, amazing, and wise decision in Florida v. Georgia by Justice Breyer, who was joined by Roberts, Kennedy, Ginsburg, and Sotomayor finds for Florida, though the ruling was narrow.

Known Georgia fanatic Thomas dissents, joined by Alito, Kagan, and Gorsuch.

In Florida v. Georgia, the Court holds that the Special Master held Florida to too high a standard, and that, in fact, Florida met its threshold burden to show that its injuries can be redressed by limiting Georgia's consumptive use of water from the Basin without a degree binding the Army Corps of Engineers. But the Court doesn't go beyond that threshold question, and instead sends the case back to the special master for evidentiary findings.

5-4 Liberal Split, but swap Kagan for Roberts.

Also, that's the end of the term. No retirements. Suck it McConnell.

I'm anti-public sector unionism.  Unionize all you want if you're a factory worker or an electrician or whatever.  However, if you're working a taxpayer-funded job, you shouldn't get that kind of privilege.

On the brightside, SCOTUS has no qualms about overruling itself. So nothing decided this week has to be permanent.

This has shaped up to be one of the worst terms in a while

Gerrymandering declared legal
Voter suppression declared legal
Unions killed
Discrimination by private businesses declared legal (Katzenbach v. McClung effectively overturned)
Conservative "women's health clinics" have freedom of speech but abortion clinics don't

The only good thing that came out of this term is Carpenter.

Plus it's already tough for governments to find qualified people willing to work for them.  This will only make things worse
