Too often, when we talk about job creation, we refer to service jobs or manufacturing jobs that have left the country. Fremont, however, has the opportunity to incubate 21st-century innovative jobs. Already, it's so exciting to see the progress that has been made in Silicon Valley, but not all of Fremont shares in this prosperity. This, I'm bringing the Innovation Prosperity Act to the floor to encourage businesses and educational institutions to collaborate more through consortiums. This would leverage the bright minds of our students and business leaders to give pupils a better education and allow business to innovate. With a special focus on rural communities facing population loss and provisions creating employment opportunities for students, this will also help boost social mobility. I believe that if we want Fremont to remain on the cutting edge of job growth for the future, we should pass this measure.

I see no reason to oppose this, really.  This bill is a great opportunity to address education and improve innovation in the region, and to rejuvenate our declining rural populations.

While we're on the subject of education, does Fremont provide free community college or student aid for trade schools?

Would the sponsor support an amendment to establish a regional community college program in the mold of Tennessee's?  (It covers all mandatory tuition and fees, for graduating high school seniors, at any community or technical college for up to two years.)

Ideally, I'd go a step further and give students 8 semester of public tuition only to in state colleges but that debate, along with free community college is best served for another bill.

Scott already introduced a free college bill this evening so I'm gonna assume that will be dealt separately.

I support this bill. Fremont should give high priority to education funding, as education determines the future leaders of tomorrow. In the 21st century, with new technological jobs, this is especially important. I also support tuition-free college, but as a bill that addresses that subject was recently introduced, I don't believe that an amendment to this bill is necessary.
