It might help, but it will probably not serve as a "trump card" to ensure his reelection.

As much as the Gulf War helped Bush.

Sure, if there aren't any after-effects as a result of the deal, and/or there isn't a recession or some other more pressing failure.

Yes, but only for a while. Most people aren't interested in foreign policy successes.

No. Less than 1% of voters would be swayed on this issue.

There won’t be a “peace deal” with North Korea. Rocket man’s just trying to get some foreign aid and assurance that he’ll remain in power. It sounds pessimistic, but Trump talking about it so much and one not happening may actually hurt him.

Yes, if it happens. However, it won't be enough to save Republicans in the midterms.

Peace with Russia and the end of the Cold War had no impact on the 1992 election.

It would help but it wouldn't be a very high priority in the minds of voters. I have said this before but the biggest asset from a successful peace deal is to contrast with the expectation of Trump instigating a nuclear war with North Korea. In spite of how he is now closer to doing that with Iran, and how Bolton is bungling the summit for him, it would be beneficial for him. And, to be fair, it would also be good for the world at large.

Donald Trump is becoming looking like Pres Carter in 1979-1980.

Being as inconsistent on it as he has been lately probably will not help.

^^ Ditto.

However, that is if it worked, which right now appears to be a failure. Also, something very important to keep in mind is that any good will generated from such an accomplishment could easily be washed away by new scandals or big policy failures. This is something that Trump has had real problems with while other presidents not so much. It's the price he pays for generating so much controversy and keeping the spotlight on himself.

So even if he could somehow get NK to denuclearize, it's highly unlikely that he wouldn't do something else that blows up in his face and drags him back down in approvals. Well, unless the NK stuff happened very close to the 2020 election, that is.

Yes,  that's why he was trying  to get one.  Pulling out of Iranian peace accord doubled down Korean stance on nuclear power

Of course it would, provided he pulled it off.

The Democrats are helping Trump by publicly rooting for him to fail.

Democrats are beginning to reckon there's gonna be no blue wave in 2018, and if the House stays Republican...guess what...no Democrat wet dream of impeachment, and nothing but mischief for any Democrat dumb enough to believe they can unseat Trump.

No.

Voters are fickle when it comes to foreign policy. You only get rewarded for massive, unbridled wins against powerful opponents, and punished for dismal failures.

Yes, but no voter is smart or patient enough to discern whether any treaty with NK has actually been successful, or whether it was just a photo op. Foreign policy shouldn’t be about public opinion and popularity, because then it becomes useless. I’m not convinced that he”ll get any more popular from this though, his mild “bounce” seems to have already happened.
