As for cities in MI...
Bellwether: Sterling Hts, MI (pop. 132000) (and many other cities and counties, such as Saginaw Co.) Anti-bellwether: Troy, MI (pop. 83000) (and other communities, such as Birmingham, MI)
I mention Troy and SH because they are adjacent cities (they share a 6-mile common border along the Oakland-Macomb county line) and are larger than many US counties. Unsurprisingly, the proportion of university graduates, as well as persons with advanced degrees, is much higher in Troy than in Sterling Heights.
