More evidence that there is a massive difference between being pro-business and pro-market.

I think you meant looting and serfdom, respectively.

There is actually no reason to do this. If coal plants are dying, that is good. It's time to move on. Somehow Trump can't understand this.

It's a subsidy to the coal industry of WV, whose workers supported Trump in record numbers.

Many of the Red Avatars here would be fine with this if it were some other type of industry with unionized workers.  At that level, factoring out the environmental issue, I'm fine with that as well.

Perhaps the Democratic Party needs to come to grips with the fact that environmentalism is, on many levels, an elitist issue that, in the short and medium run, crushes some folks at the lower end of the economic scale for the interests of rich liberals who are well-heeled enough to consider the "long run" and are not living in the "tyrrany of the moment" as many of the working poor with little or no savings are.

It's an attack on the Natural Gas industry, specifically the NG industry in Appalachia which can successfully produce more at a lower coast than coal.  Not only has coal be reduced from 48% of US electric generation to 28% this year there is another wave of NG plants opening up in the next year

Really it would only benefit one state--America's most backward failed state, West Virginia.  Either the older more expensive coal plants shut down or the new cheaper NG ones shut down

It is called Corruption. Ask the average person in Brazil or India about it. I work with Indians and I have dated a Brazilian. Corruption is a huge part of their experiences in their country.

But do NG executives have the ear of our nostalgic President like Bob Murray does?

Oh, the NG industry does have lobbyists and lawyers of course and they've been thwarting schemes like this for the last six months and they'll move to the courts if Trump is stupid enough  to do this, and of course, we all know what a drooling toddler dotard Trump is.

If he really wanted to save coal he could start by banning fracking. That would baffle people across the spectrum.

Just so we're clear and all on the same page, the consensus here agrees that the govt shouldn't pick and choose winners and losers?  That's good news.

It's much less good if you all just think Trump shouldn't pick winners and losers that you don't approve of.

To be fair, even by government standards, Trump has a lousy history when it comes to picking winners and losers.

agreed in full, but even somebody that was "good" at it (whatever that could possibly mean...seems very subjective) shouldn't do it.
