If he or she is a Dixiecrat as some suggested, why did he then vote for moderate northern Republican Gerald Ford over Southern Democrat Jimmy Carter in 1976? And didn't vote for George Wallace in 1968?

He's more of a Rockefeller Republican, who grew more conservative over time but voted for Obama because of the economy in 2008.
The person could be from Virginia or Oklahoma.
