This seems pretty straightforward. I motion for unanimous consent to a final vote.

LT: *makes a bill addressing the most controversial issue*
LT: "Let me try to send this to a vote without debate as quickly as possible."

Honestly, what the hell? You can't just try to squeeze this through like that.

Yes. Not only is this bill downright terrible, it's also terrible that you're trying to ram it through without any debate. Even if a bill is straightforward it needs to be debated or at least have the sponsor offer up some justification. This kind of behavior is typical from a partisan hack like LT. The rest of the Lincoln Assembly, I'd hope, are better than this and should not pass this garbage bill.

I'm like quasi-pro-life, but think this bill goes to far (I'd prefer a 16 to 20 week ban and harsh criminalization after 22 weeks). As for the procedural maneuvering here, I think this is a really risky move (I haven't touched abortion yet in Fremont largely because I know I couldn't get much through) to try to ram something through wthout trying to deal with serious opposition, and one that isn't promising in the long run.

A bill of a very controversial nature should NOT be ramrodded down the throats of the citizens of this region without a vigorous debate before we vote on it! If and when we vote, I will vote NO to this brazen attack on reproductive rights and the women's right to choose to have an abortion without interference from either the government or the doctor, and I urge others to join my call in doing so!

While I am not a member here, I have to say though I do personally support this bill, I oppose of how quickly it was attempted to end debate.

Wow. You think having debate is more important than saving human life. Talk about priorities!

A 12-week ban seems unreasonably short though. Also the word 'endangerment' seems unclear, does that mean simply when the life of the woman is in danger or when the woman's health is also in danger. And what about fatal fetal abnormality or cases of incest? From what I've heard Lincoln's abortion laws aren't super lenient as is(link would be appreciated) so it doesn't seem necessary to have this regressive bill.

Well, true, there needs to be some term clarification here for sure.

I congratulate the Speaker for understanding the importance of efficiently managing floor time. I am envious of this speed. I will also remind everyone that soon the Senate will have to vote on a bill containing a massive, reckless new tax on the stock market and we wont be allowed to debate it even for 50 seconds, so the idea that important policy changes require debate is apparently not true.

No. Unfortunately i wont have the chance to raise any of my objections to the dumb stock market tax when the dumb helios bill hits the senate floor. So given that, I see no harm in LT literally giving everyone 24 hours to agree to vote while still having the power to object, and also to debate the issue. You can still debate the issue during the 24 hrs and that assumes no one objects. I would object to voting on an awful new tax without discussion but that power is denied to me.

I'll refrain from debating this bill until a final vote is held.

In reply to Reactionary:

First off, LT never said he was giving 24 hours to object, heck he probably would have started the vote already if this thread hadn't received so many comments. I don't care about what's technically in the constitution, legislative leaders can get away with breaking that whenever they like unless the courts actually bother to intervene. It is only because of the outrage displayed that this chamber is not already voting.

Second, the fact that there may be a similar UC request in the national Senate does not make it acceptable. Whether something is right or wrong is not decided based on how common it is. Once my term has begun, I can guarantee each of you that I will object to any UC-to-vote-without-debate request unless it is a) on a very non-controversial issue, or b) critical to national security. Neither scenario applies here.
