Can the current 2018 migrant policy being enforced by the Trump administration that separates children with undocumented parents in immigration detention facilities in Texas coordinated by I.C.E. and the D.H.S. help Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lupe Valdez appeal to affluent white suburban Republican voters who voted for Hillary Clinton in the affluent and opulent Dallas, Houston, Austin and Midland suburbs?

Sure, it could help her not lose by as much as she would have lost by otherwise

Valdez needs to campaign heavily in South Texas, El Paso and the suburbs to help bring more Latinos and Suburban voters to vote for her.

Yes, if she wasn't just as radical in the opposite direction.

College-educated voters oppose detaining children in cages by a 66-28 margin, so it’s probably a winning issue, but probably not enough.

In Texas Governor’s Race, Lupe Valdez Faces Resistance From Fellow Democrats
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/18/us/politics/lupe-valdez-texas.html

Based on this article, Lupe also has significant resistance from Latino voters due to her policies as sheriff. So whatever benefit the migrant issue might help with her loss of support from Latino groups that support get out the vote efforts might get in the way. Any thoughts especially from Texas about the validity of this resistance?

It won't work for her, assuming Abbott isn't taking cues from the Pete Wilson playbook on immigration.

Maybe a couple points at most, but it will hardly matter by fall.

A popular issue maybe, but it isn't a wedge issue. Wedge issues sway votes.

That is assuming that the issue doesn't get resolved by then, or if the media cycle moves far enough away from it that we all forget about it. If neither of those happen then:

Sure, it could help her not lose by as much as she would have lost by otherwise

The odds that this will be remembered in November are slim to say the least

Can the current 2018 migrant policy being enforced by the Trump administration that separates children with undocumented parents in immigration detention facilities in Texas coordinated by I.C.E. and the D.H.S. help Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lupe Valdez appeal to affluent white suburban Republican voters who voted for Hillary Clinton in the affluent and opulent Dallas, Houston, Austin and Midland suburbs?

Midland has affluent and opulent suburbs? Are you sure about that?

Pretty sure. There's a lot of oil money out there.

Yeah, the part I am not really sure of is whether Midland is actually large enough to have legitimate suburbs. It seems like more of just a not-too-big city surrounded by empty land. Midland is at least an order of magnitude smaller than Dallas/Houston/Austin.
