Florida, where Republicans have a 5-1 advantage, is actually an improvement for Nelson/Democrats as it was 50-1 last month.

Also looks like Marsha Blackburn is going to let Phil Bredesen own the airwaves and allow him to  re-define himself first.

GOP is going to triage Ohio soon. I think Dems will increase efforts in FL, IN, and ND. Blackburn will probably just bank on TN being a red state and lose in the end.

I'm pretty sure there's new cars out there that cost more than the amount Blackburn's spending.

What are the numbers like when you add in 'unaffiliated' outside cash? GOP must pull ahead basically everywhere, though it might be interesting to see which states are attracting that kind of attention.

Curious about ND, too. Looks like the GOP candidate is keeping pace.

I know Scott has almost unlimited cash, but the marginal utility of having that big an advantage so early in the race is pretty minimal, especially since Democrats will surely catch up when things really get going.

Money is dramatically overrated in general. Linda McMahon threw a combined $100 million at both of her US Senate races (including one in an R-leaning environment) and lost both by double digits.

Let's not forget Jeb!, who spent $104 million to not even finish in the top 5 in either delegates or popular vote.

To be fair, Connecticut is much more democratic than Florida. I think Florida is exactly the kind of state where money can make a difference between a narrow loss and a narrow win.

Connecticut's partisan lean in a R+7 environment is not too different from Florida's partisan lean in a D+7 environment.

And despite this, Blackburn and Nelson will still probably win.

Growing increasingly convinced that TN-SEN 2018 will be the Democrats' version of IL-SEN 2010.

Hopefully Bredesen is putting together a massive field operation. Blanketing the airwaves is cool and all, but people are watching television less and less.

Agreed, if Kirk can win in Illinois, Bredesen (who is far stronger, and a lot more popular and well known in his state) can win in Tennessee.

Money has diminishing returns, but the first million dollars or so is crucial for a Senate candidate to get name recognition and establish media narratives. Tennessee is the best example of this- Bredesen has been allowed to build up a positive image for himself and tout his accomplishments as governor, leaving a good first impression. Blackburn has yet to say much of anything. That's why the race is a tossup right now.

Is there any explanation for why Blackburn is fundraising like a dead fish? Has she pissed off the donors somehow?

She actually raised $2 million last quarter, and has $6 million in the bank, but she's not spending that money on TV ads.
