Who in theory had a better shot at re-election?

Say Mulroney the Irish Canadian PM held on in 1993 for another go and faced Jean Chretien in an election called for October of 1993, would he have a good shot at winning considering 1) The PCs were rising in the polls even with him as leader in Early 1993 and 2) He was more charismatic and probably a better campaigner than Campbell was?

Vs.

Harper in 2015?

Granted Mulroney would have almost certainly done better than 2 seats (Campbell was arguably the worst campaigner for a major political party in a first world nation in the last 40 years), the fundamentals were never there for the pc's to have a chance at winning even a plurality, Harper on the other hand, had a lead in some polls two weeks before the election and remained the official opposition

No way Mulroney wins, he was horribly unpopular with Canadians by 1993 and would be weighed down by his record even more than Campbell was. The only reason the PCs looked like they stood a chance was because Mulroney left. I'd think the result would be similar, if not even worse. Harper actually could have formed a minority government(though it wouldn't have lasted long) and only at the end when the NDP collapsed and Liberals surged was Harper truly doomed. Even then he got a much better result than the PCs in 1993 did or ever could have gotten.

Mulroney had single digit approval ratings by the end.

Come to think of it, you're right.
