As my friend who brought this to my attention said, there is no way they'll be able to set up housing or services for that many people in anything resembling a reasonable time frame.  If you cram 47,000 people into the Naval Weapons Station, conditions will be bad enough that people will probably die.

Illegal immigrants are being singled out (for far less severe, non-lethal treatment) because they are trying to illegally immigrate. They can easily avoid going to one of these camps by not attempting to illegally immigrate.

I would love to send them back. In fact, this is an option that is given to them. Most choose to go to detention centers. The detention centers give them free food and shelter, which American citizens are not even entitled too. We should just send them back though, you're right.
