Alright then. Provided I can do this without Discord, could I join as Thomas Paine following this election?

Any chance I could jump in late as George Clinton? Or maybe in the next turn?

You can certainly join as Clinton, but it would have to be next turn (which should be starting on Sunday night or early Monday).

Congratulations to you all! The 1789 Election is over, and has resulted in a deeply divided hung parliament.

We are now going to enter the Government Phase in which we will simulate the work of Parliament, and first step on this will be the Government Formation Phase in which President Hancock will either appoint a First Secretary with the confidence of the House (a majority through coalition or arrangements) or appoint a minority government if no agreement can be found.

As the leader with the most seats, James Madison is hereby entrusted by President Hancock to form a government, and he has four days to set up to the task. Should no majority government be formed and Madison reject the notion of a minority government, President Hancock will entrust the leader with the most seats after Madison (Alexander Hamilton) to give it a try.

Starting from now James Madison has 96 hours to form a government. In the meantime I'll be posting the various rules and threads for the Government phase.

Players can feel free to interact and negotiate via PM or Discord, all I ask is to be informed. Sestak and Dr_Novella may start playing as Thomas Paine and George Clinton, and the Press Thread remains open for all of you to continue posting.

How bad would the Tory slaughter have been if I hadn't written out a full length speech?

The speech was an important factor in winning your constituency, that I can say. All in all the Tory campaign was very active and made some good points, but most of it was drowned because of the parties collectively focusing fire.

So sorry for the delay, been awfully busy with work. Turn will be up tonight instead, and it should run across a whole week (simulating 1789 until next Friday Night).

Should we be using the Turn thread for speeches, articles, and statements, etc.? Or do we keep those in the Press and Congress Hall threads?

The Press and Congress Hall threads stand, actually. It goes like this:

Congress Hall: Anything that takes place within the National Assembly
Press: Anything that deals with publishing (articles, newspapers, pamphlets, excerpts of speeches, etc)
Turn Thread: Anything else, from organizational efforts to some announcements, etc.

Duly noted!

Turn ends in less than two days, and we're off to 1790.

In terms of responding to international events, how should diplomacy and foreign policy be conducted? For instance, as trade becomes an issue, would we send you a PM with the main points of a proposed treaty for approval?

Indeed. I would therefore simulate the foreign response, within reason (that is to say, without excessive detail).
