FACTIONS: Political parties didn't quite develop until close to the dawn of the XIX Century, and the beginning of the game reflects that. Rather than parties, players are invited to create factions gathering like-minded men to defend a given political position, allowing them to organize and elect representatives to the National Assembly to influence policy. Players may indeed band together to form a larger faction, but each faction will be expected to have leader who will be considering their default candidate for First Secretary of the Assembly. You can attempt to form more local factions as opposed to a national one, as it would be perfectly reasonable for a player to lead a South-based faction, or one based on New England separatism, and so on.
