I think there's evidence that in Europe at least, desired total fertility is falling quite below completed total fertility. But probably not in most of the world (maybe China too).

I agree the notion that 'women are forced to work' is from a tradionalist perspective, but the broader point I think is that it shows the folly of extreme income inequality.

I mean the fact that women aren't able to reconcile their professional life with having children is a real and important problem, but it's not to the extent of mass poverty or child mortality.
