both are horrible, but Article 13 is the worse.  It's like our own DCMA, which sucks, but Article 13 is so much more onerous.  The DCMA forces content distributers to take down things after a complaint is made (instead of waiting to see if the complaint has merit).  Article 13 forces them to scan all new content with an automated system that would filter out anything already copywrited.  This would hit big companies hard.  Youtube, wikipedia (and all similiar places), Google would have to spend many millions of dollars to get something that just sucks really bad.  But at least the big companies could aford to figure it out.  It's going to kill all the little guys starting out and prevent new ones from coming up.

EU's laws doesn't work like American laws, which means it won't work like that. I won't go in depth with it, because I'm not a lawyer, but I advice people before going Chicken Little about the issue, that people seek knowledge from expect with knowledge about European law, which differ from American law.

EU 'fake news filters' suck, the EU can be scarily authoritorian, EU civil servants who couldn't get a proper job really hate freedom, etc. News at 11.

Still not a good reason to ditch the EU and ruin everything though. Seriously, do you guys know what would happen to the Dutch economy when we leave the EU? 70% of our exports goes to EU countries ffs. Britain has some weight to make some trade deals (and even for them Brexit will still end up as a disaster). But most EU countries are completely irrelevant and nobody would even bother to negotiate a trade deal with a random EUxit country (unless the European country completely surrenders on everything of course). It's really just better to stay and to fight against this nonsense.

And of course, all the Eurosceptics voted for this bill. As did the liberals of ALDE.

And how exactly do you plan on doing that?

Bully your MEPs by calling, sending emails. There will be also protests in some European cities.

Nowadays newspapers literally sell words for money. I don't see the problem with charging Google if they reprint those words for free.

The EFD no is a 5star. Oh, and I didn't realise the ECR abstainer for whatever reason.

thankfully other people are smart enough to see the problem so you don't have to.

Thanks! Apparently, the results for the Spanish MEPs were:

Yes: PP, PSOE, UPyD (1/4)

No: UPyD (2/4), Cs, Podemos, IU, PNV, CiU, ERC, Equo

Abstaining: UPyD (1/4)

Absent: BNG

UPyD is dead so that's why it's all over the place. Honestly I'm surprised with Cs and the nationalists and disappointed with PSOE. What a shame that a majority of Spanish MEPs supported this Sad

And of course, all the Eurosceptics voted for this bill. As did the liberals of ALDE.
So in the plenary vote this fortunately wasn't the case, with the majority of ALDE, ECR, EFDD and ENF (the latter including "my" elected MEPs Smiley) opposing the initiative.

For the Netherlands, only the CDA-EPP MEPs appear to have supported this. D66, PVV, VVD, PvdA, GL, SP and PvdD all opposed it. The CU guy wasn't there.

You have to wonder about the motives of the Greens who voted for this... bought and paid for?

Just noticed that probably all Polish MEPs were against the proposed version of the directive.
