I'm still on the fence, but certainly it is preferable to dogmatic/orthodox/conservative* religion.

* or whatever you want to call it.

As a Christian, I'm naturally opposed to all anti-humanistic doctrines (including deism, atheism/agnosticism, and paganism).

Is "humanism" synonymous with "atheism"?
"Humanism" and "freethinker" and "skeptic" are often used as if they are synonymous with "atheism".
They are often used as euphemisms for atheism.

I'm using humanism in its authentic sense, i.e., that worldview which puts man at the center of the universe. Deism, atheism/agnosticism, and paganism are anti-humanistic because they put the fallen world above man's inner, spiritual world (which is the heart of the human being).

I also think that Deists is a third type of people. Speaking literally everyone could be said to be either
an atheist, a theist, or a deist. Does deist fall under the theist umbrella the same way any nontheist, pantheist, and agnostic are really looking at it literally are all really just types of atheists?

It's all a question of using a terminology that all could agree on, but don't, hence the confusion of terminology.

So a theist puts him or herself at the center of the universe? I am not sure I agree with that. I would think a theist would see a god or goddess as the center of a theist universe.

A Jew or a Muslim puts God at the center of the universe (picture Mount Zion, or the Kaaba). A Christian looks past the universe and comes into direct communion with God, putting the whole cosmos at his disposal (which is also the goal of shamanism, yoga, and fine art).
