No they didn't. The "Socialist" in the party name was only there because it was a word salad designed to make it sound "above ideology".

Well, I don't like the muh Hitler was left-wing!!! crowd, but there were some Nazis who took the socialism part more seriously than others. Hitler got rid of them tho.

Any voter as obsessed with identity politics as he is is of course going to support the party (and particularly the candidate) based solely around identity politics.

I can't imagine him not doing so, but who knows?

I haven't committed to voting for Trump in 2020.

WillipsBrighton has always had f[inks]d-up social/cultural views, observable going back years on here: his shift to loving Trump shouldn't surprise anybody.

(Also, perfect time to express my pet peeve about how we call so many posters by their handle rather than their fleeting usernames)

I voted for Trump in 2016 and I will probably vote for him in 2020.

I've always been a social democrat and I still am. I realize social democratic programs are impossible to maintain with permissive immigration policies.

So, just to get this straight, you would prefer we be referred to as our original usernames, as opposed to our screen names?

Yes, as it's the only constant. Lots of people change their screen names all the time, so identifying people by that metric isn't effective (and I do prefer consistency across all users!).

I don't think Trump will enact social democratic programs but I don't think the Democrats will either, at least not functional ones.

I'd rather have functional neo-liberalism than dysfunctional social democracy.

Also, far from being a "classcuck", I am explicitly voting for my own financial interests. As a taxpayer who makes too much to qualify for most welfare programs, it makes no sense for me to vote for a party that seeks to increase the number of poor people who would. Voting to have my meager income redistributed to the global poor is not in my interests.

But immigrants don't drain the welfare system.  Actually, they fund it.  New immigrants - documented or undocumented - are not allowed to collect CHIP, disability, food stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, or welfare.  Undocumented immigrants may be eligible for emergency medical care (no follow-up care, of course), schooling, and WIC, but not much else.  Yet they still pay sales and property taxes for local government services like everyone else does.  Legal immigrants, thanks to a very strict law Bill Clinton signed more than two decades ago, must reside in the country for a number of years before being eligible for government assistance.

The CBO determined that expanding the number of legal immigrants in the US could increase federal revenues by $48 billion over a decade, less than half of which would go to covering government services.

From the article you posted:

"Groups like the innocuously named Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) circulate figures on this subject which seem accurate at first blush but fail to take the full picture into account. For example, CIS counts entire households with an immigrant father and an American mother receiving welfare as immigrant families. They count American-born children receiving subsidized lunches as living in immigrant welfare families. In other words, they skew data to make it look both like more immigrants are receiving welfare than actually are and that they’re receiving more in welfare than they actually are."

So immigrants are a drain, not necessarily because they use welfare themselves (although they often do) but because they have children they can't afford.

Anchor babies, just like Donald Trump said.
