Bernie is an individual. Also, I don't care about Bernie.

However, generally, conservatives automatically assume that people advocating for "socialist" policies (usually, social democratic policies) want to turn the U.S. into Cuba or Venezuela.

Total HP.

Side note - if we're going to be politically accurate, she's a run-of-the-mill social democrat, not a true "socialist". Either way, way too far left for me.
Wow, you're actually one of the few conservatives (matter of fact - people) that knows the difference.

I just think it's important to correctly identify your political adversaries. Too often, I think, conservatives paint left-wingers with the "You must love Venezuela/Communism/Mao" brush rather than actually engaging in sound arguments against their policies (which can be done).

Bernie honeymooned in the Soviet Union. He has defended the Castros and Cuba.

Believe me, I'm familiar with Bernie's repulsive remarks about bread-lines and various communist regimes. In his case, the criticism I mentioned above is completely fair; I'm simply saying that I don't think it can be applied to ALL people who advocate for social democracy.

I dont think Ocasio Cortez is a Social Democrat , I think shes an actual socialist.Shes part of a group who advocated for abolishing all profit

I'd certainly agree that the DSA are socialists, but I think Ocasio-Cortez has falsely labelled herself a Democratic Socialist. Her platform positions are as follows:

Medicare For All
Housing As a Human Right
A Peace Economy
A Federal Jobs Guarantee
Gun Control / Assault Weapons Ban
Criminal Justice Reform, End Private Prisons
Immigration Justice / Abolish ICE
Solidarity with Puerto Rico
Mobilizing Against Climate Change
Clean Campaign Finance
Higher Education / Trade School for All
Women's Rights
Support LGBTQIA+
Support Seniors
Curb Wall Street Gambling: Restore Glass Steagall

Nowhere in there is she advocating for the abolition of profit, the private sector itself, or calling for an end to capitalism. She wants a large, over-reaching government that maintains a giant safety-net, but until I hear actual statements from her that she wants to see the abolition of capitalism, I feel much more comfortable calling her a social democrat.
I agree with you 100%.

Also, even though, politically I am pretty much the complete opposite of you, I respect your rationality and civility.

My views on Ocasio-Cortez are mixed. She is a definite HP as regards to political issues. Her positions on the economy, healthcare, ICE, gun rights, and Israel are too far to the left for me. As regards to her as a person, my views have become more complicated due to her behavior surrounding Crowley's minor-party endorsement and the things that she has said in the tweets. She was a lean FF personally before that, but I would probably consider her neutral to lean HP now.

HP. I respected her and was initially glad she defeated Political Boss Crowley, but she let the celebrity get to her head. She became a sour winner despite Crowley's very gracious song-endorsement and showed her character as smug and disrespectful. And of course, being a socialist and anti-Israel doesn't really make me like her more.

No Cortez is not the fycking sore winner, Crowley is the sore loser. It is not smug and disrespectful when you primary opponent does not vacate the WFP endorsement.

It is not possible for Crowley to do so.

Under NY election law, you can only vacate your party's endosement if you are selected to (A) fill a vacancy or another party, or for running for Governor, or (B) you receive the nomination for a State Supreme Court Judgeship of any party (which are decided AFTER the primaries for offices by delegates to judicial conventions who are elected in the primary; it's kind of an Electoral College for judges).

If Crowley were an attorney, the Working Families Party could nominate him for a Queens State Supreme Court Judgeship.  Then, he could resign his nomination of the WFP, and his Committee to Fill Vacancies would name AOC as his replacement in the Congressional race (assuming the WFP chair would grant a Wilson-Pekula waiver, as AOC isn't a registered WFP voter.  Crowley's not an attorney, however, and if he were to create a new party in which he ran as their Gubenatorial candidate, that party would become a permanent party if Crowley received 50,000 votes (even if he was obviously not campaigning).

Isn't that some system?  It's a system designed to (A) favor the dominant party in times of intraparty division, and (B) reward lawyers who lose primaries.  Whatever people think of Crowley, this situation is not his doing, and he can't do anything more about it than he's done.

Given the latest news on her she reminds me of a leftist version of Palin or that witch lady in Delaware.

the "unemployment is low because everybody has two jobs" bit was awfully embarassing for her and her fans (well, the smarter ones).  She's passed college level economics classes?  Do they teach things in those classes anymore?

Peter Navarro has a PhD in economics and he doesn't even understand how GDP is calculated.  Of course, Navarro is merely a senior advisor to Trump on economics.

Regarding Ocasio-Cortez I think she is an impressive person who has lifted herself from poverty to some success through very hard work and has accomplished a good deal at a young age.

I also disagree with most of her policies and regard many of them as rather loony.  However, I regard her as a person who believes 'government spending pays for itself' in the same way that modern conservatives believe that 'tax cuts pay for themselves.'

As these are essentially two sides of the same coin (they both end up as government borrowing pays for itself) the difference is that Ocasio-Cortez is one of a relative handful of Democrats while nearly every Republican in Congress believes and votes on the basis that 'tax cuts pay for themselves.'  So, while Republicans try and make a big deal out of Ocasio-Cortez, they ignore that nearly every single Republican is just as extreme and loony from the different side of the same coin.  If you think Ocasio-Cortez is extreme, then Paul Ryan (who also has a degree in economics and is also wrong about everything) is just as extreme.  Of course, Ryan is merely the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

she thinks there are 500 million people in America? or she's really bad at math.  I suppose the bad at math one is more likely, what with her having a degree in economics yet still being a socialist and all.

I wouldn't vote for her based on the economic issues on their own.

She's not necessarily unqualified to be in the US House, but some of her foreign policy comments have been downright ignorant. Although it's not as important as for President/VP or even the Senate, the House is going to vote on things effecting foreign policy so it would be nice if she knew what was going on in the world. That's a completely valid criticism and trying to deflect by saying everyone's just picking on her because she's a woman doesn't do anything to deal with it.

Someone who overstayed her 15 minutes of fame by thinking the country cares way more about her than they actually do and doesn’t seem to understand the importance of working with other people in the conference.

Where would the babies breastfeed? Cause AOC is like that #woke feminist who wants to reverse gender roles everywhere.
