Once every 20 years, the GOP has a VP nominee that is treated as a laughingstock by the Dems: Agnew in 1968, Quayle in 1988, and Palin in 2008.

That's arguably more dangerous. If in a hypothetical second term, something happened to Bush (God forbid), Quayle would be left in charge.

Pence has a higher chance of becoming President than Quayle ever did, and Pence is far more competent than Quayle was. Plus, 41's cabinet was far better and more qualified than 45's, so we'd at least have that going for us if Quayle ever had to ascend to the Presidency.

Yeah, he was rather sadly fairly close to the tail on the dumb side of the bell curve for high ranking politicians. I kind of felt sorry for him in that sense.
