'Better' is hard to judge. I think Putin tends to be massively overrated because he inherited the economic recovery, but Yeltsin was a corrupt drunk himself. Voted Yeltsin, if only because incompetent HPs are better than competent ones.

Yeltsin. He could be "corrupt drunk", but he followed the proverb "if you can't give anything - give freedom" (after all - Communists initiated an impeachement procedure against him without any risks and fears, can someone imagine this in present Russian Duma against Putin?). Putin - doesn't. He may be less drunk, but, i am sure - no less corrupt...

It's an interesting argument between "an autocratic and nasty despot" and "somebody who wishes they were an autocratic and nasty despot but are too incompetent, unpopular and drunk to accomplish their goal'.

Putin

Russians are living much better under Putin administration

Yeltsin was authoritarian too. Remember what he did in 1993. And his reelection in 1996 was probably rigged.

As much as it hurts, Putin is the better of the 2

Putin bears very little responsibility for the economic improvements that happened under his watch, and is hugely more authoritarian than Yeltsin.

Also I'd dispute the fact that all Russians live better. Those who value their freedom, as well as the LGBTQ community, live much worse.

So yeah, Yeltsin pver the one who allowed concentration camps for gay people.

Putins reelections were rigged from the start of his campaigns. Putin igets no credit for level of life of Russians - he doesn't control world oil prices. And Yeltsin had no choice in 1993 - i fully support his action at the time, which prevented a bloodbath in Moscow. So - no on all points.

Yeltsin was a hilariously terrible moron.

Putin is a frighteningly terrible monster.
