Mr. Speaker,

I rise in support of the act proposed by the gentleman from Massachusetts. It is high time our brothers and sisters in Vermont were admitted to our great union, and I wholeheartedly urge all delegates to support this act.

I yield.

Mr. Speaker,

The expansion of our federal union is always a boon to the nation. I have no opposition to this act.

I yield.

Mr. Speaker,

Vermont has clearly shown that their state will only be a further complement to this ever expanding nation. I urge the Republicans to vote Aye, as I will be doing.

I yield.

Mr. Speaker,

I will, of course, vote that the measure be adopted by this Assembly, and advise all Whigs to follow.

I yield my time to the chair.

Mr. Speaker,

The Hamiltonians will likewise follow suit in voting in favor of admitting Vermont.

I yield.

Debate having been closed, the Speaker called for a vote:

National Assembly Vote:

Moving into the final vote, the measure was passed on a unanimous vote.

Senate and President:

After a brief debate in the Senate the Vermont Statehood Act of 1791 was passed with 27 votes in favor and 1 abstention, and was promptly signed into law by President Hancock.
