Was Trump aided by Pence's evangelical support and steady hand as well as solid conservative beliefs and results?

The Trump/Pence ticket definitely reverted Indiana back to the 2004 margins.

He may have pulled over a small number of voters but those voters probably would have supported Trump in the general election at some point anyway, regardless of who his running mate was. Pence just moved them over faster. I really don't think him being picked mattered as much as people think. Though he was certainly the choice with the least amount of baggage, since Trump supposedly wanted Christie or Gingrich. Thanks Paul Manafort!

It absolutely did. There were some Christian conservatives who were turned off by Trump and the AH tape (not a lot because I don't think it had a great impact on the election.) They likely would have voted for him regardless, but having Pence on the ticket may have made that choice easier.

Not in Indiana, at least not much. The Evangelical camp had already congealed behind Trump as their guy after Ben Carson dropped out, long before Pence was tapped. Trump won the IN primary bigly despite Pence backing Cruz and the nomination still being in doubt. Pence is a divisive figure in Indiana, even among a lot of Republicans, and almost lost to John Gregg and his Mustache in 2012.

I have serious doubts that it helped at all nationwide. The kind of voters Pence appeals to are the kind of voters who would vote anyone with an R next to his name for President.

This, definitely.

Pence's selection by Trump kept at least some religious conservatives out of the Johnson and McMullin columns.

Yes, I knew people personally who based their support for Trump on Pence.

The kind of voters who backed Cruz are the reason Trump lost the Popular vote and the reason both Romney and McCain aren't President.
