I know this is kind of a default deadoman response, but is there any evidence these bans hurt poor people disproportionately? (As opposed to say, plastic bag fees, which are regressive).

Anyway, these sort of bans are far more useful in developing countries that don't have enough infrastructure to deal with their garbage properly (not that I know enough about grabagr collection in Dominica to say whether they're doing an adequate job).

there is a reason people use plastic for things.  It's better and/or cheaper than the alternatives.  Poor people are less able to adapt to the more expensive options.  I mean, everyone suffers if the thing is worse than the plastic thing and everyone suffers because it's more expensive, but people with money can make the change way easier than poor people.

I do agree that these things make more sense in places with sh**tty garbage collection.  Perhaps some rich people can help by setting up proper garabage services in the places that don't have them?  That would help way more than a plastic ban here or there or anywhere.

Excellent sensible policy, way to go Dominican Republic,
We all owe it to our environment Smiley
wrong country (it is confusing)  It would be a lot harder to outlaw plastic and styrofoam there (what with it being like, a real country and all...with like people)  Illinois has 4 towns NOT called Chicago that are each more than twice the size of Dominca.
