Four years after Washington's death America continues to move on

List of Presidents of the Republic

John Hancock (Independent): March 1789 - Present

List of First Secretaries

James Madison (Republican Coalition): May 1789 - November 1792
Samuel Adams (Whig Coalition): November 1792 - Present

Half way through the first Parliament in American history the first change of a head of government has taken place. Stricken by the yellow fever the young First Secretary James Madison has been forced to resign, leaving the elder and increasingly powerful Samuel Adams as the head of the current Coalition government. With a term due for a new election in at best two more years, it falls onto Mr. Adams to keep his government together and continue facing the many challenges of the early American democracy. As Mr. Adams rises so do other parties as the different political factions begin to evolve, and the political map begins to change. How will America move forward under the second of the First Secretaries?

Having made my decision, The Great Experiment is to continue. While I strongly considered a move into the 1820's and 1830's, I don't think we're ready yet considering there is still much to explore and the task of filling up over thirty years of backstory and different governments is just too much, meaning we'd start the round with very little info to go on. I'd much rather continue to explore this new world created by the departure of America's first First Secretary.

I can announce that there will also be a few changes in gameplay:

1.- Governor elections will be simplified to make things easier for players.
2.- The slots available for legislation will be recalibrated to prevent players from running out of ideas.
3.- There will be a more objective review of the press and debate system, awarding political points to players for their contributions which will better measure the results of their actions.

The purpose of this thread is both to informe me of whether you intend to carry on with your character, switch to another one, or leave the game. It is also intended to recieve new players for the different characters now available (Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr, John Adams, the Pinckneys, possibly Gen. Jackson and Federalist Leader Morris, and so on), a task in which we will spend the days before the restart. I would like to encourage you to consider recruiting people if you believe there is someone who might be interested in playing, or if you want to choose your own replacement for your character.

We will start on Friday 17th during the night on the 1793 Turn, as assuming the Government doesn't fall we will have two weeks of gameplay before the 1795 General Election. I will spend the next few days going over the rules and writing summaries for each year so new players can have an easier access into the game material.

Afraid not, young Adams is unlikely to be leading a party of his own given his age, limited influence and with his father being a founding member of the Whigs. Lewis is good though.

Apologies for the delay! I've been through a complex weekend. Tonight we get either the turn or a final decision on the game.
