After two terms of President Reagan, Incumbent Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush declined to run for President and instead decided to run for U.S Senate against incumbent Democratic Senator Lioyd Bentsen. The race looked like a shoe in for Bob Dole. However businessman Donald Trump who only recently became a member of the Republican Party and was a member of the Democratic Party up until 1987 jumped in the race for President as a Republican. Trump ran on supporting President Reagan when it came to foreign policy and tax cuts, however ran against Reagan on the issues of trade and the second amendment taking a tougher stands against guns than incumbent President Ronald Reagan. While President Trump bucked Republican orthodoxy on free trade, many in the Republican Party thought of him as another anti establishment candidate and saw that as a positive despite their disagreement with him on a variety of issues including issues such as abortion where once again Trump took a more pro choice/pro abortion stance than President Reagan took. President Trump eventually ended up securing the Republican nomination for President. While he ended up failing to receive the endorsements of his opponent Pat Robertson, he did end up receiving endorsements from his other opponent (who came in second) Senator Bob Dole and both President Reagan and Vice President Bush. On the Democratic side it was much more divisive and much more of an ideological battle of ideas. With the race being very close between White Supremacist David Duke (who less than two decades ago was a member of the American Nazi Party) and Civil Rights activist Jesse Jackson. David Duke ran on a very anti Reagan, anti war, and anti Israel platform while Jesse Jackson ran on a platform that promoted civil rights and an racist, anti white supremacy platform. It was a close race but in the end Duke ended up winning the nomination receiving no endorsements from Jesse Jackson who actually went on to endorse Republican nominee for President Donald Trump.

Who wins and what does the map look like?
