Hmm so now that the TPP and US exit from the Levant ain’t happening, we are either going to or go ahead of the threshold of power in the pacific. China will try and subjugate its neighbors, basically restricting the world of access to port routes, and become the big dog. Expect to see war being more likely unless we get off our butt, sign economic power to play, and be a stabilizing factor.

We should put troops in Vietnam and bring them back to Taiwan.

Doesn't the US regularly do bomber raids over the Korean peninsula?

Our military is mostly leagues better and we can just upgrade our bases in the islands we have. The main pickle is a divided region with split economic ties, now heading in China’s favor. If we can increase economic ties by investments, deals, and the like we should be fine.

Pulling out of TPP was a disaster.

China absolutely is more of a threat than Russia, but the military industrial complex is always begging for money.

I'm all for sh**tting on the PRC, but them practicing bombing us is neither shocking nor cause for concern.  It's what militaries do, practice fighting the most likely fight.  You don't think our guys practice attacking China several times a year?

edit-I mean, this is like when we find out Germany is spying on France and everybody acts all shocked and faux outraged.  As if everybody (that matters) isn't spying on everybody else (that matters).  Or when it's "leaked" that the US has actual written out war plans on how to best invade Canada...of course we do.  And the UK has plans on how to invade France  And Japan has plans on how to defend against the US.  Everybody has plans.  Plans is easy.  Making new plans is good practice.  If we actually had to occupy Canada for whatever reason, the actual invasion would probably look nothing like the "plans".

Yeah and hurt itself in the process. Actually the opposite is true, in any hypothetical war the U.S. would be the one seeking to choke off China's maritime trade and collapse it's economy. The whole point of the naval expansion and building carriers is to keep the shipping lanes open and remove that vunerability.

I would like a resolution or at least a nonviolent stalemate forever to this, keeps the gears turning without needing blood to grease it.

There are two meanings of the phrase "preparing to." One is bringing about the circumstances for something in your plan. Making dinner is an example. The other is making a contingency plan for something you fear might happen, but don't expect or hope for. Buying health insurance for a catastrophic stroke in the current month is another. There's a big difference between these two meanings.

As I've said before, China needs to be taken care of and cut down to size. No option should be off the table.

China has driven Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines into the American camp. Between these four, there are nearly six million total troops. These are not insignificant forces.

In their 4,000 year history, China have rarely struck anyone.

This is inside people's heads trying to drum up fear.
