Former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who served three separate terms as PM between 1996 and 2004, died today at age 93.

It was during his tenure that Bill Clinton made a state visit to India, which was the first state visit to India by a US president in my lifetime. Later that year, he addressed a joint session of the US Congress.

He won both of the two top-ranking Indian awards available to civilians - the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan.
