Bush is too unpredictable - Even if Bush withdraws the Miers nomination, social conservatives will never trust him again.

How could the White House NOT anticipate the reaction coming from social conservatives?  How could Bush be so blind to the expectations of his base?  How did the message, “Please appoint someone with a proven track record”, not get through to Bush?

Doesn’t Bush understand that THE CAUSE is much more important than his presidency?  Did Bush not understand the base’s unspoken willingness and capability to politically execute the Bush White House?

What made this president think social conservatives were so stupid as to buy into Miers?  Doesn’t Bush understand he is simply an expendable tool?

I'm glad you underestimate him.  Those who have done so have historically ended up with egg on their face.

It's an analogy to the "God cries when you touch yourself down there" tale of a generation ago.

Only this time, it's Bush you're hurting, and the punishment is basketloads of drowned kittens. The cats are held hostage until all the moaning about Miers stops.

Yes, we social conservatives have egg on our faces due to underestimating Bush's incompetence.  We will not repeat the error again.

Well I guess now that conservatives, liberals, and moderates all dislike Bush he will have solidified his reputation as a uniter.

I was wondering how long it would take social conservatives to realize that the Republicans have only been paying them lip service.

This has nothing to do with social conservative vs. Goldwater conservative. There's no evidence Miers is the latter either (she has no record on federalism, property rights, etc.).

It was Republicans who gave us Thomas, Scalia, and Rehnquist, by the way.

They also gave us Souter, Stevens, O'Connor, and Kennedy.

You said just paying social conservatives lip-service. Meaning Republicans do nothing for them.
