I don't understand the concept of conceding an election. If you lose in such a way that it's undisputed (like every presidential election of the past century except 1948, 1960 and 2000), just don't do anything.

Why call the opposition at all?

2004 was still pretty close. But yeah, most elections are like 1952, 1956, 1964, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1992, 1996, pretty obviously who won right away.
