For the presidency, vice presidency, senators, congress(wo)men and most governorships, there is a mandatory age between 25 and 35. Should we also have a maximum age? Some state Supreme Courts have them in place. 70 years for example.

Honestly, I thought about that yesterday watching parts of the Kavanagh hearing in the senate. Dudes like Chuck Grassley, Dianne Feinstein or Patrick Leahy made the impression of old and tired people. Especially the senate is extremely over-aged in my opinion. I mean, some folks there were around when FDR took the oath of office. The same is true when it comes to the Supreme Court. Do we really need 80 year olds making decisions for generations at this age? I'm all for equality for seniors, but voluntary retirement doesn't work that well.

Of course, mental fitness has not only to do with age. Some people at 75 are doing better than others at 65. I personally would favor an age limit of 70 years on inauguration. Under such a rule, no senator could be older than 76, no president or governor older than 74. SCOTUS judges would automatically retire at 70 or 75.

Thoughts on this? My point is not about ideology. Of course, Trump would be affected by this, but it's not about him. For example, I like Joe Biden, but think he is too old for 2020.

No.

I also don't support minimum age.

Old enough to vote, old enough to run.

I don't want an 18 year old running the state of California.

No, there should be no age limit at all for elected office. Voters should be able to choose whomever they want to elected office.

I do think there should be an age limit on lifetime appointments so long as they exist (although I think the Constitution should be amended to eliminate lifetime appointments).

Yes, just because you can get re elected doesn't mean you're worthy of serving. Mandatory retirement at 85.

For head of state/government, no. People are living longer with new medical advances, and we recently had a country elect a nonagenarian as prime minister.

For courts (especially the SC), yes. If you look at other Anglophone democracies around the world, you will notice that virtually all of them have a mandatory retirement age for their high court justices.

Well, I'd argue that being president is more difficult or stressful than being a judge. And you can do more harm.

This happened around 36 years ago and all four witnesses present denied Dr. Ford's claim. I am not saying Ford is making this up it could go either way honestly. But you cannot just call the man despicable for something he hasn't even been proved guilty for. Innocent before PROVEN Guilty.
