At least this is payback for what they did to Josh Newman

That was Ling Ling Chang who unseated Josh Newman, not Nguyen. The bright side is that Chang is likely to go down in two years.

EDIT: I see that you typed "they" and not "she", my bad!

Funny to see Umbert beat Nguyen when she defeated him in her very first election for OC Supervisor 1st District in 2007.

Republicans in California are like wild animals. You can find them now only in deserts, mountains, and forests.

I think Democrats won all the seats with zoos in them Smiley

Actually no Bakersfield has a zoo called the California Living Museum

Still waiting on the BoE results for district 1, but Ted Gaines is still leading by a good amount. He’ll have to resign from his senate seat soon to take that office. His district (Senate District 1) covers most of north-eastern California (Redding, Susanville, Nevada City/Grass Valley, South Lake Tahoe) as well as the northeastern Sacramento suburbs like Roseville, Folsom, and El Dorado Hills.

The torture never stops for California Republicans. 47,000 votes left in San Diego County and next update is Friday.

If Maienschein will lose - more or less "sane" Republican caucus in Assembly will, probably, be reduced to one "pragmatic conservative" - Jordan Cunningham (even Mathis and Mayes are unlikely to qualify).... Can't remember such situation in 45 years i observe US elections.

If there's just one more dump like this one, then Gover will pull ahead.  And considering AD-77 is about 16% of the county as a whole, then that's entirely possible.  Regardless, it'll be really, really close.

I actually don't think she will.  She didn't win this batch by much at all, and there aren't many votes left.

But it's okay.  Dems still comfortably have a supermajority, and you can't win 'em all.

This will be an easy target in 2020.

After Baker loss it's good for me, that at least Maienschein won. Sane person in Republican caucus. That's always good.

So I was looking at the 2020 state senate districts that will be up (all odd-numbered districts). 99% chance there will be zero vulnerable Dem-held state senate seats. Yet Republicans could still lose another 2-4 seats (21, 23, 29, and 37).

If 2020 is similar to 2018 in California, get ready for a 33D-7R state senate. And there's evidence to suggest that even if 2020 isn't a Democratic wave nationwide, California will still operate in its own world (just like 2014 and 2016). And Dems might be able to scrape 1 or 2 more seats from the GOP in the Assembly.
