oh please god no

After 2016 I don't want to hear a f**king word about early voting ever again (except if it's about Nevada and from Jon Ralston, I guess).

Absolutely right, butttttt:

Bring on the early voting stats! My Body is ready.

California voting started October 8th. I wonder when they will start posting ballot returns cause I haven't seen anything yet.

Early voting starts today in North Carolina. I'll probably vote toward the end of the week.

Just as a quasi-comparison: in 2014, when there were approximately 210,000 early votes banked in GA (which was on October 22), the electorate was 66% white, 29% black and 5% other.

As of last night, approximately 210,000 early votes had been cast: the current electorate is 57% white, 32% black and 10% other.

Ultimately in 2014, the electorate became less white as early voting progressed and settled at 61% white, 33% black and 6% other; Nathan Deal won this group by less than 1 point.

By the way, this is a great resource for anybody who's not aware of it: http://georgiavotes.com/

Absentee voting is up 92.4% in Virginia compared to last year's state elections.

VA-10 in particular is up 153.7%.

I get why people are doing it, but I wish there were more comparisons to 2016 rather than 2014. This is going to be a high-turnout midterm, and the patterns we'll see will be much closer to the 2016 patterns.

Doing both would be useful.

Early California absentee returns:

Democrats 82,050
Republicans 62,087
Other 44,856

Returns in San Diego and the Central Valley with the exception of Nunes's district are very low. Also voters on both sides in Orange County seem to be energized.

Whoa. I can't imagine this is anywhere near typical in Kansas, right?

That's like GOP turnout equaling Dem turnout in Massachusetts. I know nothing about past patterns but it's not as if there's a vital Democratic party with a humming turnout machine in that state, no?

^^^ FWIW, there are only 423 returned ballots in KS thus far: all UOCAVA ballots. Their breakdown:

DEM - 225 (53.2%)
GOP - 115 (17.2%)
UNA - 79 (18.7%)
LIB - 4 (0.9%)

I wonder how many of those are actually uniformed ballots...

For the 2018 primaries, 47.052 voted on the first day.

Steve Schale update out of Florida

While Republicans are currently up 6.31% with ballots returned, this is about only half the margin that was present at this point in 2014.

Just eyeballing 2016 Party Affiliation numbers, Republicans had 807,912 registered voters, Democrats had 450,265, and NPA had a total of 544,194...Libertarians were at 15,556.

Even assuming that postal ballots skew Democratic, this is definitely not a good sign for the Kansas GOP.

Overall... What are the likely indications (if any) that could be drawn for early voting numbers in TN as a whole?
