I believe it should either be proportionate to the cost of living in each state, or something along the lines of 10.50. 7.25 is no where close enough to sustain a normal living wage, and to people who may point out they are “part time jobs”, around 20% of people in my home state have a college degree. Does that mean they’re necessarily less intelligent? No. Not everyone is rich, not everyone is fortunate enough to have a comfortable, cozy office job. I believe this will help grow the middle class. Tell me this. Say a 40 year old man is struggling, he’s putting in 40 hours a week, making 7.25 an hour. That’s 290 a week, for tough work. It’ll come out to 1,160 dollars a month. Is that really enough to buy or rent or own a home, to pay for electricity and food? You shouldn’t have to choose between food and a home, or electricity and healthcare. I agree with the overall message of this bill, but a 15.00 minimum wage would have a strange effect on the economy. However, I’ll evaluate more economists opinion on this topic before making a commitment to vote aye or nay.

I'd support a $15 minimum wage but I think it should be phased in say over 3 years with more gradual increases in the meantime to avoid causing unnecessary disruption.

Good to know those who support this legislation don't care about small businesses in rural areas that cannot afford to pay $15/hr to their employees.

What? Hostile? Do you hate workers and want to deny them a "living wage"? How is 150 any more arbitrary or unreasonable than 15?

I think the best approach is a combination of what Haslam and Pericles said. A phase in period, combined with some kind of cost of living basis for the wage in different areas of the country.

Clearly thats the best method but is unlikely with this Senate.

You know, you could introduce an amendment to implement that.

The amended version would put us exactly in line with the 2013 act, as 12.50 in 2014 is 13.25 now.

Why should San Fransisco and rural West Virginia be required to have the same minimum wage? This bill completely ignores the cost of living differs by region by region and state by state. Besides I don't see the need for the federal goverment to try and micromanage what rate the regions set as their minimum wage.
