The wants and needs of 7 billion+ people coupled with a finite amount of time, energy, and resources is such a mind numbingly massive gap that automation by itself won’t be able to fill it. Humans are not immortal and have an insatiable desire to consume. This gap is where human labor has fit in and will continue to fit in.
We will sooner destroy the planet (or our own species) via never ending consumption before we ever get to some Star Trek utopia where somehow 7 billion people are satisfied with an extremely amount of time, energy, and resources to satisfy their needs and wants.
