John Tyler, Born 1790, Still Has Two Living Grandsons

Although I already posted about this in the presidential trivia thread, this was so shocking to me that I felt I had to make a new thread. Tyler, born in 1790, was President from 1841-1845. One of his children, Lyon Gardiner Tyler, was born in 1853 when the President was 63. Two of Lyon's children are still alive, Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Jr., born in 1924 when his father was 71, and Harrison Ruffin Tyler, born in 1928 when his father was 75. It is amazing to me how a president born in the 18th century still has descendants who are only two generations apart.

He & his wife restored the home & grounds based on information gathered from over 47,000 letters describing the decor, furnishings, & landscape, & they have it open to the public for tours by appointment.

It's Taft. His granddaughter, Caroline Manning Cunningham (daughter of Taft's daughter Helen) is now in her nineties, but still alive.

It's impossible to say.  We probably wouldn't know about the Tyler example if John Tyler hadn't been president.  But it's definitely possible someone could still be alive who had a grandfather born even earlier than Tyler.  Example: a man born in 1770 has a son in 1845, at 75 (the age Lyon Tyler was when Harrison Ruffin was born), and that man has a son or daughter at the same age in 1920.  That man or woman would be 97 or 98 today.  Whether or not this actually happened, it definitely COULD have happened.

Imagine a French person alive today whose grandfather participated in the storming of the Bastille as a teenager in 1789!
